Material Honesty: The Salt x Steel Story

Salt x Steel began with a single object: the mirror.

Evan trained as a metal fabricator, spending years shaping steel and aluminium to specification for other people's projects. It was disciplined work, but it left little room for original design. Mirrors became his answer — a form simple enough to let the material itself take the lead.

When the pandemic slowed the business, Evan engaged a boutique marketing agency to help chart its next stage — a partnership that, in time, became personal as well as professional. Evan and Kayla now lead Salt x Steel together, in business and in life.

That collaboration reshaped the brand's direction. Kayla's background in aesthetics, fashion and interiors, paired with Evan's command of metal and form, pointed toward a broader ambition: bespoke furniture built with the same material integrity, designed for homes, hospitality venues and fashion spaces that call for something more considered than what is readily available off the shelf.

This is the chapter Salt x Steel is now writing — a rebrand, an expanded offering, and a body of work designed and made from first principles. Evan leads product design and craftsmanship, shaping every piece by hand. Kayla leads brand, digital and creative direction, ensuring the story is told with the same precision as the work itself.
